Group sessions are a transition.
It helps bridge the gap from individual sessions to then speaking with new people at a conversational level.
We, humans, are habitual creatures. Changing an accent is changing a habit learned from birth. We’ve been speaking our way since the very beginning. So, it’s not easy to change overnight.
As we start to work together, we’ll get into a groove; and you’ll start to make some noticeable progress.
You’ll have my guidance to keep moving forward. However, our individual time together can feel safe because of the private nature of our session.
Many of my clients are still consciously working on perfecting those speech sounds within the confines of an individual setting. But the main goal is to get you speaking out there in the real world.
This group can be compared to taking the training wheels off a bicycle.
You’ll be a little wobbly at first.
It takes time to learn how to monitor your own speaking habits. Being fully aware of how your mouth movements need to work at the speed of a normal conversation can be overwhelming at first.
It is easy to rely on cues and reinforcements from me. But the end goal for you is to rely on your own awareness of your speaking skills with other people. Eventually, your new speaking habits will become automatic no matter who your listeners are.
But before your speaking skills become automatic, this group will give you wonderful opportunities to use your new skills with other people working on similar goals.
These adult group sessions are a steppingstone for you to practice even more with other people before you graduate into the conversations happening at the real-world level.
It’s a supportive group where you can polish up and make some final tweaks in your pronunciation skills.
Most of the time, the group will be conversational in nature. Group games, a question of the day, or even mock interviews will be provided during the session to build your confidence speaking with new people.
The number of group sessions will vary from person to person. Some people transition easily from individual sessions to speaking in new environments as quickly as possible. Others may need some time to adjust to their new speaking habits. Everyone works at a pace comfortable for them.
It’s time to invest in yourself…
